WE LOVE: THE NEW COLLECTION FROM FLYNN JAXON

9th October 2017
Screen Shot 2017-10-05 at 2.58.23 PM

We have been huge fans of Flynn Jaxon since they started and their new summer collection has not disappointed. We love it. Their fabrics are amazingly soft and super comfy and the items always fit well. Here are some of our favourite pieces:

Sleeved baby vest – in black and grey. (It’s so hard to find babygros in black so these are a win!)

Pink harems (I bought these for Francie Sugar).

They also come in navy, grey and black.

Infinity scarf

The onsie. This is just amazing!

The Romper – these are probably our favourite product. Super soft and easy to pull on. The twins live in theirs in summer. (again so many other prints and colours are available).

Make sure you have a look at their website for all they products. Their shorties and track tops are great too.

THIS IS WHAT WE DID AT THE COTTONON KIDS LITTLE REINDEER ACADEMY

14th December 2016
robyndaviephotography-kb-cottonon-7

Last week we were invited to attend CottonOn Kids’ Little Reindeer Academy at Sandton City. It was a fun-filled morning with our kids as they took part in little activities throughout the store. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly smiles and reindeer horns. First up we were given our reindeer names, ours were ‘Blazing Razzle Dazzle’, ‘Happy Razzle Dazzle’, and ‘Blazing Mc Twinkle.’

Our girls then dressed up in an array of tulle and sequinned dresses and sparkly shoes which is one way to my three year old girls’ hearts. Francie was excited to have her first “ballet dress” and showed everyone in store.

The next activity was face painting. My twins chose a heart and a flower for their cheeks.

Next up we were shown around the store. CottonOn Kids has some great stocking stuffers and Christmas present ideas  – from activity books and unicorn wands, to musical instruments and novelty swimming caps. The drums and xylophone provided a lot of entertainment. I also spied giant santa sacks, cool wrapping paper, and Christmas garlands. The trick was sneaking gifts into my basket without the girls noticing. I always love CottonOn’s approach to children in store – they don’t mind them taking part in the shopping which makes it much easier for moms.

Aside from their summer range of clothing, CottonOn also has Christmas-themed items. It is quite fun to have one or two pieces just to wear around Christmas, like the “FaLala” pyjamas on Christmas eve, or a reindeer T-shirt for a hot Christmas day.

We then moved to the colouring-in table where there were rainbow cupcakes waiting as a treat. All three girls enjoyed colouring in their Reindeer Academy certificates. I would say they graduated with flying colours!

The Little Reindeer Academy created a wonderful in-store experienced that really focused on children. Combined with super staff that had endless energy for kids, and great products, it made for a wonderful shopping experience for the moms too!

KIMMY & BEAR CLOTHING

14th September 2016
kimmy-and-bear-49

We are so excited the announce the launch of Kimmy & Bear Clothing.

Kimmy and Bear clothing is simple, beautiful, and well made. Our materials are handpicked for form and function, and we select only 100% pure cotton fabric. We  also oversee every aspect of the production of our small, limited collection. Our garments are not built for a single season, rather they should be worn again next year or passed down to a younger sibling just learning to walk. Founded by three sisters, based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

kimmy-and-bear-51

Kimmy & Bear’s first collection is inspired by childhood. By a time when our mother dressed all three of her daughters in matching outfits she’d made from patterns not dissimilar to these, by a time when the garden was our playroom and barefoot mornings stretched into long shadowed afternoons collecting snails and imagining worlds of fairies and forts, when reality was magical, and the magical was real.

Our clothes are reminiscent of those sweet childhood memories you have tucked away in some forgotten place.

Kimmy & Bear Clothing will be launching this weekend at Rock-a-Baby  or find us on Etsy.

THE ONLY HAIR PRODUCT THAT I USE ON FRANCIE SUGAR

10th August 2016
thumb_IMG_1704_1024

Some people were surprised when I shared on the blog that I had waited until Francie was 6 weeks to bath her, well – here is another one: Francie is now 16 months and I have never washed her hair with more than just water! No shampoos or anything like that for us. The funny thing is that when I was little I remember our family coming out from Australia for the December holidays and my aunt telling us that she had never washed her toddler son’s hair and most of the family being completely shocked – I now completely understand!

So as you have seen Francie’s mop of hair is quite delicious, beautiful curls that seem to grow quickly and just keep curling – many of them doing more than a 360 degree loop. But after all that cot lying the back of her hair started to get a bit matted and knotted and I knew I had to do something about it or I’d be forced to cut off those gorgeous locks.

I heard about Paul Mitchell Kids Taming Spray. All you do is spray the tiniest bit on the mattered area and brush it through – voila! The hair is unknotted and looks shiny and lovely.

BEAUTIFUL PRODUCTS WITH A CAUSE

12th July 2016

KIN Culture products are handmade in South Africa with quality materials and excellent craftsmanship but the best part is that every item you purchase is an investment in orphans and vulnerable children. We especially love their great DIY Play Gym (above) and mobile (below).

But that isn’t all, we’re also pretty obsessed with their homeware and womenswear.

Look at this fabric storage basket, love!

And I love these printed napkins.

I just came across this nappy bag online and love it! I am a huge fan of all of Love Milo‘s items – especially their beautiful bird print so you can imagine my delight when I saw this nappy bag lining.

Here are some other reasons why we love it:

  • Made from 100% genuine leather
  • water resistant, cotton canvas inner lining with flying bird print
  • 3 inner pockets
  • water resistant, cotton canvas changing mat with flying bird print
  • Proudly South African

And while we are talking about Love Milo, we love these fabric baskets which we would make great toy storage.
