MY TOP 10 ESSENTIALS FOR DECEMBER HOLIDAY (SPONSORED)

13th December 2017

The December holidays are upon us! And that means packing bags for the whole family. While I am by no means a minimalist packer (that went out the window with the arrival of my twins), I try to keep anything beyond clothing to a minimum. However, no matter the destination, these are 10 items you’ll find in my suitcase at this time of year:

  1. Dermikelp Moisturising Lotion: What I love about this product is that it’s a cure all for the whole family. I don’t need to pack a hundred different creams for different situations – this will work as a moisturiser, a soothing lotion on any skin irritation, a cooling lotion after a day on the beach, and even treat those pesky itchy bites. Dermikelp products are completely natural so I’m comfortable using it on my girls’ skin. They’re made from kelp extract, and are free from all the nasties (cortisone, parabens, and chemicals). Available from Dischem, and selected Pick ‘n Pay, Clicks and independent pharmacies.
  2. A giant sun hat: I am vigilant about sun protection for me and my babes, and am usually covered up at the beach (hence I arrive back from holiday as pale as ever!).
  3. Mangos: My absolute favourite fruit, and one that is synonymous with December holidays for me. I make sure a box finds its way into the cooler bag of food, and I stock up from padstals once my stash has been devoured.
  4. Artisan chocolate: To maintain balance (or just to feed my addiction) I don’t go anywhere without some good chocolate.
  5. Headphones: Travelling (and nap time!) is the perfect chance to catch up on all those podcasts I’ve been wanting to listen to. I am currently listening to Undisclosed, and Dirty John is next up on my playlist.
  6. Glass water bottle: I actually don’t leave my house without my water bottle. I am trying to reduce my use of plastic in any way I can, and this is such an easy way to do so. Also, it reminds to stay hydrated through the day.
  7. Books: One of my best things about being on holiday is all the reading I get to do as I am not distracted by every day life, chores, and to-do lists. You’ll find the whole family with noses buried into books when we’re on holiday. I am currently reading the obligatory The President’s Keepers with my jaw dropping open.
  8. Camera: I seldom go anywhere without my camera, and holiday is no exception!
  9. Bling: I don’t take my usual jewellery with me on holiday as I don’t want to be worrying about losing it on the beach. But I like to take one or two fun pieces to add to an outfit.
  10. Planner and a pen: A new year means a new diary, and I love that feeling of a whole year’s worth of blank pages. It is such a January ritual to fill in my new yearly planner,

GIVEAWAY: A DERMIKELP HAMPER FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

4th December 2017

When it comes to skincare I try to only use natural products, especially on my babes’ skin. I find out all I can through trusted sources, word of mouth or just plain old research before I buy a new product whether it’s shampoo for me, body wash for my husband or balm for my girls.

Although it’s been on the market for a while, I have only recently discovered Dermikelp, and learnt that it is 100% natural. As its name suggests, Dermiklep is made from a type of kelp species that has anti inflammatory properties which target and relieve itchy or irritated skin. It is free from chemicals, parabens and cortisone – the usual culprits found in lotions targeting skin irritations (which is a huge plus for me).

Dermikelp has a wide range of skincare products such as body wash, shampoo and conditioner, scalp spray, moisturiser lotion, itch relief cream, after sun cream spray, and skin cream and spray. I like that the products are for all ages, so we can all use them, and that there are specific products for specific needs that my individual family members may have. For example, I use the moisturising lotion when one of my girls gets dry patches in the winter months, and I use the itch relief cream to relieve an itchy mozzi bite in the summer. There is also an after sun lotion will I will pop in my bag when we head to the coast.

We’ve worked with Chloe on a few projects lately and have loved getting to know her. She is mama to almost 2 year old Ava.

Tell us one of your favourite things about being a mother.

Anytime her little hand grips mine in a tight hold while we walk.

What is one piece of parenting advice you heard and tried to follow as a mother.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Tell us one of your favourite memories of parenthood so far.

When Ava realised she was Ava. She kept pointing to herself again and again saying Ava, Ava! She was so happy to be her own person in the world.

What if your idea of the perfect way to spend a day with your little one?

In nature, swimming.

What are your favourite books to read to your babe?

Dr Suess is always on rotation as well as a collection of vintage Beatrix Potter books that belonged to my step mother as a child.

Do you have any family rituals?

My husband gets up every weekday morning with Ava and makes himself a coffee, Ava a baby chino and me a cup of tea. Ava climbs into bed with me and we drink our beverages whilst reading stories in bed.

What one thing we will never catch you doing as a mama?

Saying “I’ll never….” because I’ve done everything I thought I would never do as a mom.

What is the biggest surprise to you about having children?

How clever they are and their ability to teach you. I feel like she teaches me far more than I teach her.

What do you love most about your husband being a dad?

Aw man, EVERYTHING!? Seeing them develop their own relationship that’s separate from me is pretty special. I shoot over weekends so they spend a lot of time together and it really shows.
