This is a fantastic idea for a home shoot with your babe: just play! We love how mama and babe play cars, jump on the bed, draw and give each other cuddles in this mama/babe shoot. Also, hello mama’s amazing dress!

WE LOVE: CLOUD B BUBBLY BUNNY

27th May 2015
bunny

The other day my neighbours started to renovate their home. This sounds rather irrelevant but since we on small properties, which are close together it sounds as if their builders are bashing down my house instead of theirs. And of course, all of this is happening in the closest corner to Francie Suagr’s room possible. The noise was driving me crazy. I must admit that it is worse for me than for her, she doesn’t seem to hear it and it certainly doesn’t keep her awake but I had to do something, even for myself.

So I headed to my local Baby City and bought a Cloud B noise machine. I chose the Bubbly Bunny, because it is so cute but there are a whole range of animals to pick from: Sleep Sheet, Gentle Giraffe and Tranquil Turtle.

Here is what I love about it:

  • It looks cute. I don’t want a whole machine standing in the corner of my nursery but this just looks like a soft toy.
  • The velcro strap allows you to strip it onto your cot/pram if you wish.
  • There are four different sounds: friendly giggles, soothing winds, ocean waves or a gentle lullaby. I have only ever used the winds or waves option. The thought of falling asleep to the sound of friendly giggles freaks me out.
  • If you travel, you don’t have to take the entire soft toy with you, can remove the sound machine part and just pack that. It’s only the size of an old fashion tape deck.

One think that we don’t like is that the sound switches off after 45 minutes and there isn’t a way to set the sound to carry on indefinitely.

Francie Sugar loves her Bubbly Bunny too.

A few weeks ago we went away with our whole family to the bush. We grew up coming to this farm so it’s a special place for us and it’s wonderful to see our babes here. Here are a few snaps from our holiday if you would like to take a look.

FAMILY ALBUM & THIS WEEK’S READING LIST

22nd May 2015
elle

Of course we are talking about what every mama is talking about: Nicole Trunfio breastfeeding on the cover of Elle Australia. We love it! Go Elle Australia. The magnificent model took to her Instagram saying, “There is nothing more powerful and beautiful than motherhood…” We couldn’t agree more.

Here are some other links that caught our eye this week:

Mamas are the designated worriers – I’m glad I am not the only one.

Breastfeeding Dr Seuss style. Love this!

This mama looks like she has it all together but then she shared her earliest motherhood challenge.

Incase you missed this link on our Facebook page – giving birth is awesome.

I’m listening to the audio book ‘Bringing up Bebe’ a French Yogurt Cake is the first thing every French child bakes, here is the recipe. I can’t wait to bake with Francie Sugar.

Happy weekend everyone!

PS. Two girlfriends I were discussing midnight feeds we decided that the worst time for a feed is 4am. 3am is fine as is 5am but 4am is the worst, so if you are still nursing at night, we wish you a weekend of no 4am feeds.

52 PORTRAITS – MARCH & APRIL ROUND UP

20th May 2015
week1

Week 1: One day old. I fought sleep while in hospital with you: I lay through the dark nights, supposed to be sleeping but all I wanted to do was stay awake to savour the day that you were born. Here we both slept sweetly. Your crunched up face is imprinted on my heart.

week2

Week 2: 12 days old was your first outing, we went to Kimmy and Bear for Easter Sunday. On Easter Monday Kimmy and I took you for your first walk. I wrapped you in the sling as we walked Parkhurst for 3 hours, you grunted the whole way and we keep peeping in on you to admire your squashed up face. You got all hot and sweaty as I marched the streets of Parkhurst.

week3

Week 3: You love your hands. You have loved them since in the womb, each scan we saw your hands curled up at your face and now, in this big world, you do the same. Those tiny, perfectly formed fingers and hands fold into each other against your sweet face. And you love being swaddled, tightly wrapped up is how a newborn baby should be.

week4

Week 4: Before you came along I spent everyday with these darling twins. The first time I felt you move in my tummy Florence was asleep on my belly and near the end of my pregnancy they would point at my big pump and say “Chessie baby pop”. Now you are here and I can feel that you know them, you don’t flinch at their voices and you never cry at their hugs. They love you too – fascinated at your every move, telling me to change your nappy or give you ‘milkies’. I love that you will grow up playing with your cousins.

week5

Week 5: We walk twice a day. You sleep in your pram every morning as I walk you to the strip for breakfast. Sometimes we meet friends. But every evening I wrap you up in the sling and walk the neighbourhood. You grunt and groan in the most satisfied way and you get sweaty against me each time. At the end of the walk, I unwrap you on our big bed, you struggle to wake, so you cuddle up on my chest as you slowly wake from your deep slumber. This is my favourite part of the day, the moment you rest on my chest.

week6

Week 6: We took you to the bush for Bear’s 60th birthday. What a little star you were, sleeping soundly and feeding so well in the bush air. I spent every misty morning outside on the balcony nursing you as the sun came up over the bushveld. And as I put you to sleep at night we heard hyenas as a lullaby. The weather was hot and balmy so for the first time you kicked with a bare bum and flexed exposed toes. You went on your first game drive – seeing rhino, antelope and giraffe. You saw hippo too, the bumps of the Landy soothed you to sleep. You slept hours on your great grannies chest, you managed to be awake to watch Bear blow out his candles, I fed you sitting next to Bailey as she fed the twins, Kimmy cuddled you before each sleep and you dad pushed your pram along the dirt each night. You grew this week, your little leg rolls became more prominent and your cheeks filled out – we decided the bush air agreed with you.
