You have to love the eighties fashion of Diana. Our mama always tells us how fashion forward she was, isn’t it funny. Of course we love this pic of Prince William and Prince Harry with their mama… even princes can have a bit of fun.

This week these links caught our eye, happy reading:
How to raise a girl
A dad’s apology to stay at home moms.
We were furious when Courtney Babyccino was removed from instagram… here is her story of what happened.
So many of my friends are having baby boys at the moment which got me thinking… here Cup of Jo talks about having a boy

Yes we know Hunter Baby is based in Australia and therefore we are faced with possibly paying customs and the Dollar/Rand rate does not exactly allow easily spending but we couldn’t resist sharing this delightful clothing collection with you… it’s for boys only which we love.

Winter essentials for baby

24th June 2014
collage_winter-essentials

We’ve just past the shortest day of the year and winter is in full swing. Mornings greet us with a nip in the air and nights arrive early. Our usual summer-living culture of outdoors, naked babies and playing in the garden is now replaced by bundling our babes up, turnings heaters on at midday, and finding ways to entertain that don’t involve splashing in water or digging in mud.

Here is my list of winter essentials that I couldn’t live without through these cold months:

Clockwise from top left:

Hearty recipes using in-season ingredients like steaming pumpkin with a touch of cinnamon, paw-paw with a dollop of full cream yogurt or segments of sweet, juicy orange. Image and more ideas from here.

I find the winter air very dry so I rub Jojoba oil on my babes after their bath to keep their skin moisturised without using any unnecessary ingredients.

Winter entails a lot of extra snuggling and this Frank Cushion from Country Road is the perfect cuddly addition to a nursery.

We seldom leave the house without our babies in beanies. This super stylish one is from Country Road. Cotton On has cute ones too.

Winter-themed books are a great way to celebrate the change of season.Winter is the Warmest is all about the cozy elements of winter like roaring fires and flannel pj’s.

The cold weather is a perfect excuse to indulge in a pair of adorbale booties. I love this pair from GAP as they are soft on the little feet and stay on because of the fold around the ankle.

Throws, throws and more throws. We can’t get enough of them – as blankets at night or wraps for afternoon walks. I have my eye on this one of from Country Road.

How cute is this bunny onesie from J.Crew (shipping to SA is available)? Onesies are my go-to winter wear item as the closed feet provide extra warmth.

Enjoy winter lovely readers. The perfect excuse for extra baby snuggles.

BUMP

meet the bump: Odette

23rd June 2014
odette

Meet the lovely Odette and her beautiful 38 week along bump. Odette lives in Cape Town with her husband, Jaco. This is Odette’s first pregnancy.

Are you finding out the gender of your baby?

Most certainly. I am a huge planner, and once the baby arrives it will be a big enough surprise so we definately wanted to know. We found out at 12 weeks already that we were having a boy!
Tell us one thing you can’t live without while pregnant?

My very comfy body pillow, I would not be able to sleep without it.
What is your favourite beauty product at the moment?

Mama Mio Tummy rub oil. It keeps the bump moisturised avoiding stretch marks and itchy skin without getting oil on my clothes.
What is your favorite food or are you having any cravings?
My sweet tooth has made an appearance but other than that, I’ve had no particular cravings. In the first 3 months I had some strange food adversities to broccoli, eggs, and certain salads that I used to love in the past.
What preggy books or apps are you using?
Books: Baby sense by Megan Faure, A Life begins by Gial Davidson and Hipnobirthing by Marie F. Mongan. On my ipad I have the “I’m expecting APP, The Babycentre APP, and The Pregnancy companion.
How would you describe your pregnancy style and where do you shop  for preggy clothes?
Showing off the bump of course, from every angle! I love the Yummy Mummy range which I get at the Kids Emporium baby boutique.
What’s your exercise regime at the moment? And how has it changed  with your pregnancy?
Its limited to swimming, yoga and walking these days. I cannot get myself to commit to a pregnancy yoga class so I am still doing normal Vinyasa at Yogalife, and I simple change some of the postures when it gets too uncomfortable.
Have you decided on a birth plan, are you going natural or having  a caesar?
The plan is to go completely natural with no medicine. I am running a 6 week Hipnobirthing course that is helping me prepare for it.
In preparation for your baby what are your most over whelming  thoughts/ worries/concerns?
Being sleep deprived for the next 2 years. By the sounds of things, that is inevitable.
How did you tell your husband you were pregnant? And when did you break the news to friends and family?
I was in London at the time on a work trip, and a few things lead me to believe I might be pregnant so I brought a test, it came out positive and I sent a picture to my husband who was back home. He was thrilled! We live far away from most of our friends and family and we tried telling everyone in person rather than calling or making it known on the internet. So we used big family get togethers to share the news. A close friend got married in Thailand last December so we made an announcement a few days before the wedding as so many of our friends were there. At about 25 weeks I decided to make a announcement on Facebook because it is impossible to see everyone.
Dream babymoon destination?
A luxurious Gamelodge would be ideal. We want to go on early morning game drives and treated to beautiful sunrises, bonfires at night, delicious food and spa treatments during the day to ease the backpain. I have been trying to find one close to Cape Town which has been difficult and I would prefer not flying anywhere. So I am searching for a plan B.
What has surprised you the most about being pregnant?
The fatigue, how nice everyone is to me, my glossy hair, and the intense love that I feel for somebody that is not even born yet.
What is the best pregnancy advice you have received?

To trust and listen to my body and my baby.
Good luck for the last few weeks Odette, we cannot wait to hear about the birth of your baby boy.

What attracted us to this book? It’s title of course! This lion gets board of his rural life so heads to the city of lights for some excitement and new opportunities. But, upon arriving in Paris, he is disappointed to find that no one pays any attention to him, even when he roars in the Metro.

MAMA

meet the mama: Tessa

Tessa and her husband, Dylan, live in Salt Rock with their 3 beautiful blonde girls, Mackenzie who is 5 1/2, Taeya who is 4 and Honor who is 9 months old. Tessa is a stay at home mama, a full time wife and a volunteer at Linc Church.

Favourite product for moms and why?

When I am organized and I plan my time well, my family lives in an incredibly spacious place. So my favorite product for any organized busy mom would have to be an iPhone. It sorts my life for me. My phone also captures so many precious moments of my girls and when I’m feeling despondent I often flick through the pics to remind me of all I have to be grateful for.

How has your style changed since becoming a mom?

It has changed so much. Oh my gosh! I make way more of an effort now since I’ve gotten older. When I first got married (we fell pregnant three months later HA!)  I dressed in a way that I thought people would like and comment on and now I dress with a sense of knowing who I am. Simple and comfortable, feminine, sophisticated with a mixing of the old and the new. I love clothes and fashion but find that I wanna dress in such a way that looks great but also allows me to lounge around on the carpet with my kids.  Jane Sews is one of my favorites. I really want to create a picture for my girls that is inspiring and relevant, that says Mom is effortlessly cool. I really would like to show them the beauty of an ordinary girl who dresses with confidence knowing who she is rather than for attentions sake.

Favourite product for babies and why?

I just love Sophie le Giraffe. Honor started chewing this toy when she could barely grip something and is still 5 months later carrying it around with her. It’s nothing fancy but it is something I have loved having third time round.

A baby essential you couldn?t live without and why?

Enchantrix definitely. The smell is heavenly and the natural elements of this product protect my babes sensitive skin from the harshness of other products. If I could choose a second, it would have to be my pram. Every mamma needs a light weight, easy to clean pram, travel system. I love my Peg Perego.

Best gift you have received for your baby and why?

This would have to be my Victoria and Hunt baby bag and accessories my mom bought me before Honor was born. I don’t leave the house unless this bag is well stocked with everything my kids might need for the day. Baby bags that look trendy for the win.

Favourite book to read to our baby and why?

I love Priddy books. The range is huge and the pictures are gorgeous. My kids have also loved all kinds of Nursery Rhyme books. We love Enid Blyton and in our home we often wrap a day by reading a kid appropriate picture Bible. My kids love these stories and we believe this will set them up for success.

Favourite song to sing to your babe or their favourite song to hear?

Our house is always full of music. It’s awesome. We make up songs for our babes but I think with Honor my favorite song to sing to her has been Oceans by Hillsong United. My bigger girls are obsessed with the Disney Frozen soundtrack at the moment.

Where is your favourite place to go hang with your baby?

I love Sage Center in Fox Hill which is beautiful and so child friendly. We also spend a lot of time on our new church campus. My kids call it home. It’s possibly one of the most beautiful buildings and most refreshing places I find myself. I love being where my kids feel safe and happy.

Favourite meal to give your child?

I’d have to say Spag bol. All three of my kids wolf this down without hesitation. No tears. No coaxing just munching. It’s awesome.

Naming your children always has a story. How did you pick your children?s names?

We are big on the meaning of our kids names. Also pretty big on seeing the babe before naming as well. I love names that are “different” so that was always a big determining factor for me.

Mackenzie means “Child of a wise leader” (HA!) We believe she is wise and pray that as we lead her, as her parents,      she will flourish and grow into her gifts. I honestly think this child is the kindest most creative soul I know.

     Taeya means “a crown”
We wanted a name that would express the joy this little person brought to us even though we were going through a really tough stage of life. A crown is a picture of royalty, being set apart, greatness and a real kind of treasure. Taeya is all these things.

And Honor means “to attribute much value to something or someone. I have always wanted a baby girl called Honor. Her name leaves people going WOW and that is all that I dream for this babe. That she would astound people with her grace and beauty.

I see names as a statement of all we hope they will become. I kinda feel like speaking their names everyday will speak those awesome things over their lives.

What one thing we will never catch you doing as a mama?

Never say never. I’ve made many mistakes so this is a hard one. I suppose I would really hope that you would never catch me moaning consistently about the “burden” and inconvenience of motherhood. I have been this woman before who was totally dissatisfied in being a mom but I have grown to love this job. It’s the most worthwhile thing in the world.

What surprises you most about being a mum?

I always thought that motherhood was gonna be me teaching my kids everything they need to know. But the truth is, daily these little people teach me what it means to be free, have fun and to forgive deeply. They are amazing.

What do you love most about your husband being a dad?

I have the best husband. He is generous and kind. He has helped me find my groove and trusts me implicitly with our kids. I love that he is the ultimate family man. He is so driven and so committed to his work but we know that we are his prize possession. I’m secure knowing this man would drop anything for me and our girls. And well he just is a fantastic and present father. Perfect for his girls. Good luck to the suitors in the future though.
What one thing do you want to teach your child?

I wanna teach them to embrace their place. To know the potential that lies inside them. I wanna teach them to be kind. To honor people. To be brave. I would love to model sincere gratitude to them. I really hope that I will be able to teach them some of what it means to be a wife and mother. There is so much. Just wanna be faithful with their little lives and set them up for something great.

Best piece of advice you could give moms of 3 little girls.

Put your brave on. The world out there is determined to tell every girl that they are not beautiful and need to be something better or different. But this is not the truth. Brave is the new beautiful. And courage is so important because it will protect the beauty within. Teach your daughters to be secure. To know who they are. And who they are is precious, beautiful, gifted, worthy and necessary in every way. This world really needs these kinda girls. Oh and breathe deep. The emotions can be a challenge. Never fight emotion with emotion.

Newborn pics in hospital

17th June 2014

Apparently having a newborn pics taken while still in hospital is becoming quite a thing in the US. How do you feel about it? Would you consider inviting a photographer to your hospital room to snap away? This is baby Logan, snapped on the day she was born by Megan Hartley.
